9:00 – Representatives from the State Department of Corrections will be giving a presentation on their efforts to give women in prison educational opportunities while incarcerated, as well as reentry programs.

10:00 – Barbara Martinson from New York City will be giving a presentation on “Women going to College in and after Prison”. Barbara was an instructor for women in the New York

Prison System. She found that women could do quite well when taking classes in the controlled environment of prison but when they were released they could not make the transition to the academic environment of the real world. She founded a nonprofit organization called “College and Community Fellowship” which helps to raise funds, identify needs, and knock down the barriers that keeps women from succeeding. They have had tremendous success with women achieving masters’ degrees and one PHD. The program incorporates mentoring, study skills, and support groups.

11:00 – Barbara will facilitate the group on looking what could be done here in Wyoming

both by AAUW and the community at large.

12:00pm – Luncheon – Henri Manning (actress who performed at our regional conference a couple of years ago) will be taking the role of Sacajawea, the native American who became the guide to the Lewis and Clark Expedition.

1:00pm – A Powell Community College professional will give a presentation on her overseas efforts to recruit students from other nations. Because of her, Powell has one of the highest percentages of foreign students in the state. She has recently returned from Viet Nam and will be relating some her experiences encountered in this quest.

2:15pm – We will be showing the film “Don’t Fence Me In”.
