Gender Equity
The purpose of this committee is to implement the mission statement of AAUW: “to promote equity for all women and girls, lifelong learning, and positive societal change.”
Activities of this committee include, but are not limited to:
- Functioning as community liaison with other women's groups and community groups for the welfare of girls
- Supporting and assisting with speaker programs for improving the self-image of adolescent girls
- Expanding the educational opportunities for preadolescent girls in the areas of math and science by selecting candidates for scholarships for the Tech Trek Summer Camp at UCSD
- Establishing contacts that will encourage community moral and financial support for AAUW’s programs
- Contacting local schools to develop a sensitivity about gender equity
- Applying for grants to support these programs
- Establishing contact with public libraries to encourage the purchase of books that promote a positive role model for young girls as well as donating books to the Public Libraries that promote a positive image of women in history.
